US K1 Visa

k-1 visaThe most common question is what is a K-1 Visa and why is the visa needed. The K-1 Visa is a fiancee visa which allows you as an American citizen to take your fiancee beack to the US with the intention to marry her. The K-1 Visa is a non immigrant visa and it can expire as it is issued for a limited time only. The US visa is usually only valid for 3 (three) months and you have 3 months in which to marry your fiancee in the United States.

The K1 Visa cannot be extended and should the person die the visa will automacially be withdrawn. The K-1 Visa process starts with the filing of a Petition for Alien Fiancee (Form I-129F) which is filed in the US and depending on where in the US you live it will be filed with a specific visa processing center. There are currently 2 processing centers in the US that being the Vermont Processing Center and the California Processing Center.
